Here is how to set up a VPN (OpenVPN) on your Ubuntu.
Before we start an active ZoogVPN subscription is required and your device must be connected to the Internet.
You need full administrative privileges on your computer.
Step 1 – Get Configuration Files
Go to ‘OpenVPN Configuration Files’ and download the necessary files for any location you would like to use.
Then go back to the home screen of your device operating system and click ‘Settings’.
Make sure you have OpenVPN installed through your terminal.
If it is not installed, follow these simple instructions below.
Install network-manager-openvpn
In your terminal type:
‘sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn’
Then press ‘Enter’.
Confirm that you Want to Continue
You will be prompted: “Do you want to continue? Y/N” Type ‘Y’ and hit ‘Enter’.
Restart Network Manager
Once installation is complete, type the following to restart Network Manager:
‘sudo service network-manager restart’
Then press ‘Enter’.
Done. You have successfully installed OpenVPN on your Ubuntu.
Step 2 – Create a connection
After successfully installing OpenVPN, close the terminal and go to Settings > Network > Click the + to create a connection
Choose the Import from file option:
Step 3 – Configure a connection
Import the file you downloaded from the ‘OpenVPN Configuration Files’ section
Enter your ZoogVPN account credentials.
Your username is basically the email address of your ZoogVPN account.
Your password is the password you used when creating your ZoogVPN account.
Then click on the green “Add” button in the upper right corner to save the connection changes.
Step 5 -Connect to ZoogVPN
Enable the connection by pressing the toggle switch.
Enable the connection by pressing the toggle switch.
To simply turn it off, press this toggle again.
