STEP 3. DD-WRT OpenVPN Installation

Before we start an active ZoogVPN subscription is required and your device must be connected to Internet.

You can find your router with appropriate build by searching the DD-WRT database.

Please note that we do not offer support with flashing routers. If you need assistance, please consult the DD-WRT forums or DD-WRT wiki pages of your make and model of router.

Before you get started with your DD-WRT router...

- ZoogVPN has already been setup and works on your desktop computer.

- DD-WRT router has been flashed with the newest DD-WRT firmware (e.g. v24-sp2.Kong Mod Build r21395).

- DD-WRT router has already been hard reset (30/30/30 method) or restored to the factory defaults via administration menu.

- DD-WRT router is connected to your main home router via wi-fi or ethernet.

- The Internet can been accessed through your DD-WRT router via wi-fi or ethernet from your desktop computer.

- DD-WRT router has a local IP address of 192.168.1.1.

- Main home router has a different LAN subnet (e.g. 192.168.0.1).

Step 1 - Router Settings

On your web browser, go to your router's settings page (on most DD-WRT routers the default address is http://192.168.1.1)

Step 2 - Click on 'Basic Setup'

Go to 'Setup' then select 'Basic Setup'.

Step 3 - 'Network Address Server Settings'

Uncheck all three checkboxes for 'Use DNSMasq for DNCP', 'Use DNSMasq for DNS' and 'DHCP-Authoritative and enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.4.4 into Static DNS 1 , Static DNS 2 , Static DNS 3 textbox as seen on the screenshot.'

Step 4 - Enable Firewall

Click on 'Security' then 'Firewall' and set 'SPI Firewall' to 'Enable'

Click 'Apply Settings' button to save.

Step 5 - Click on 'Services' Tab

On the DD-WRT main control panel, click on the 'Services' tab, and then click on the 'VPN' sub-tab.

Step 6 - Enable 'Start OpenVPN Client'

Enable the 'Start OpenVPN Client' option. The OpenVPN configuration panel will be displayed where you will need to enter your settings.

Step 7 - Enter Zoog VPN Settings

a).Server IP/Name: enter one of the following 'Server Address'.



Please login into your account to select a VPN server.



Port: enter 992 for UDP or 443 for TCP.

Tunnel Device: TUN

Tunnel Protocol: UDP (or TCP depending on port)

Encryption Cypher: AES-128-CBC

Hash Algorithm: SHA1

User Pass Authentication: Enable

Username and Passwords: enter your ZoogVPN username and password.

Advanced options: Enable

TLS Cipher: None

LZO Compression: Disabled

Nat: Enable

Firewall Protection: Enable

b).Download OpenVPN Configuration Files according to your VPN Plan. Unzip the archive file and save the folder.


c). Open an .ovpn configuration file with a text editor where you can find all of the above settings. Copy+paste the text between <ca> and </ca> block into the 'CA Cert' text box, just like in the sample screenshot below.

Step 8 - Connecting to Zoog VPN

Click 'Save' button and then 'Apply settings' to start the connection to the VPN.

Check your connection status by clicking on Status --> OpenVPN. If you only see blank text boxes, something must have been misconfigured. If connection is successful you should see the following screenshot.

Once the router has successfully connected to Zoog VPN, open any of your devices connected to the router and check that the flag on your account page has now turned to the desired country flag to verify successful connection.
